LAKE BUNYONYI
The beautiful Lake Beautiful Bunyonyi is situated in the south western region of Uganda in the district of Kibale. Set in a peaceful isolation, the calm Lake Bunyonyi waters which is the jewel in western Uganda, flow in the vicinity of the impenetrable Mgahinga Forest Mountain Ranges and is renowned for its gorilla tracking opportunities.
The lake provides a captivating beautiful ambience that is very different from the nearby rainforest. Situated 1962 meters above the sea level, and neighbored by steep densely cultivated mountain sides, it is approximately 25 kilometers of length and 7 kilometers in Wide. There are 29 islands on the lake and its depth varies between 44 meters to 900 meters.
The surface of the lake is normally at a temperature of 25°C making it bilharzias free and very secure for swimming. The name Bunyonyi means “a place of many small birds”! This beautiful scenery will certainly overnight experience that will remain memorable in your life. There are numerous islands along the lake’s shores on which visitors can always relax.
There is a rich birdlife with more than 200 bird species registered and the national Bird of Uganda- the crested crane is very commonly seen, and for that reason this destination is ideal for bird watching.
THE LOCAL PEOPLE;
Most tribes staying in this region include the Bafumbira, the Batwa, and the Bakiga people although the largest numbers include the Batwa who score the largest number of people in a square meter in the whole of Uganda.
