KIBALE FOREST


Kibale Forest prides in the largest diversity and populace of primates in the whole of East Africa.


IIt is has 766 sq. kilometers of the most easily reached rainforest Uganda, mixed with grasslands plus swamps.

KIBALE FOREST WILDLIFE AND BIRDS TOUR

Kibale is a habitat to more than 60 species of mammals among which are the 13 primates, more than 200 butterflies plus the 355 species of birds.

The adjacent Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary safe guards the Magombe swamp as well as a sanctuary for birds plus butterflies. There are four species dwelling in this area and in no other place across Uganda; masked apalis, blue-headed bee-eater Cassin’s spinetail and Nahan’s francolin.

Kibale’s population of large mammals is remarkable but particularly hard to see because of the forest’s density. It is habitat to elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo sitatunga and various duiker species. Significant to mention are the forest elephants which are smaller and more hairy, that enter the park seasonally.

  • Kibale Forest is the habitat of Uganda’s chimpanzee tracking and among the finest places in the whole world to follow-up these impressive beings. .
  • However there are 13 primate species in the verdant forest and half of them with be brought to sight on a guided walk.
  • You will see the vervet monkeys, red colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, black-and-white colobus, blue monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabeys and red-tailed monkeys.

When

Chimpazee Trakking is the main draw for many visitors. Guided walks also offer excellent birding and general primate viewing. A tour of the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is highly recommended.

It is possible to visit Kibale Forest all year round. But remember that it is a rainforest and conditions become more difficult in the wettest months (March - May)
